Elevation Worship has a song called “Available” that is beautiful. I will listen to that song over and over praying and telling the Lord that I am available and that He can have it all. I want to be obedient to the call that He has on my life. I want to finish well the call that He has on my life because everything that I have is His. I know that I may think “but Lord I want to do this other thing, but I will surrender to what You want because I have found out that when I do surrender to His call, I am more fulfilled than I ever thought possible”.
When we read through the Word of God, we see how important the call is that God has on each one of our lives and how He has prepared us for that call.
Esther is one whom I think of. Her people the Jews were sentenced to all die at the hand of a sinful man who had influence over King Ahasuerus, and they did not know that Esther was a Jew. Esther’s Uncle Mordecai said to her something that we must all take to heart when we remember that God has a purpose and a time for us and with Esther it meant deliverance for the Jews, but she had to not be afraid and take steps toward that deliverance. Esther had no idea if she would perish or not but thankfully with great wisdom truth was revealed and deliverance was provided and until this day that time in history is celebrated with the Feast of Purim.
Esther 4: 14 NKJV For if you remain completely silent at this time, relief and deliverance will arise for the Jews from another place, but you and your father’s house will perish. Yet who knows whether you have come to the kingdom for such a time as this?”
We must believed that when we have a relationship with the Lord Jesus Christ that He has provided for all to be holy. God has called us with a purpose and that we would become like His Son, Jesus Christ, that we were predestined because He sees all eternity and He knew we would surrender, He has justified and glorified us. Woo hoo. I am grateful.
1 Peter 1:15-16 ESV But as He who called you is holy, you also be holy in all your conduct, since it is written, “You shall be holy, for I am holy.”
Romans 8: 28–30 NASB 28 And we know that God causes all things to work together for good to those who love God, to those who are called according to His purpose. 29 For those whom He foreknew, He also predestined to become conformed to the image of His Son, so that He would be the firstborn among many brethren; 30 and these whom He predestined, He also called; and these whom He called, He also justified; and these whom He justified, He also glorified.
1 Thessalonians 4:7 ESV For God has not called us for impurity, but in holiness.
The Lord also tells us that we are chosen by Him and appointed by Him so that we could bear fruit. I tell you when I read the scriptures on one topic like this I want to dance and sing and bring that hope and gladness to others because so many are lost thinking that they have no purpose.
John 15:16 ESV You did not choose me, but I chose you and appointed you that you should go and bear fruit and that your fruit should abide, so that whatever you ask the Father in my name, he may give it to you.
Jeremiah 1: 4-5 NASB Now the word of the Lord came to me saying, 5 “Before I formed you in the womb I knew you, And before you were born I consecrated you; I have appointed you a prophet to the nations.”
Concerning that the call that God has placed on each one of our lives, we must also know that One day we will all stand before God and His first question to us will be “what have you done with My Son? Have you accepted His gift of the cross and His most precious blood? Have you received Him, the Lord Jesus Christ as your Lord and Saviour? All eternity for each one of us will be based upon our individual answers.
For those who answer Yes then there is a second question that He will ask of us. “What have you done with the calling that I have given you? Were you obedient to the call and did you fulfill that call in the excellence that I have provided.
Every time we walk in the call that God has given us with humility, obedience, and fellowship with the Holy Spirit then we are blessed and a blessing. We must know that our call is ours, there are different seasons, different growth spurts but there is a call on each one of our lives and to know that you and I must spend time with the Holy Spirit.
In my opinion when I speak about my calling, we must always remember that that if we are married, have children our first calling is to be a husband or a wife and to do that well, to being a mother or a father. How we do this calling first will affect all other areas of my life.
We need to be treating every season as precious as any other. All seasons will pass quickly but know and be encouraged that if you are called to speak, called to write, called to sing, called to clean, called to be a missionary, called to be a CEO, called to be a lawyer, called to be a banker, called to be a prophet, called to be a carpenter, whatever God has called you and I to do we must be faithful to prepare, learn and grow every day. We have been called for a purpose and plan and that time is NOW.
I heard a prophet’s testimony that the Lord told him what his call was, what it would entail, and the Lord also told him that if he was not obedient then only, he and the Lord would know about his disobedience. This is the intimacy that each one of us can have with the Holy Spirit. Thankfully from that day that man of God started learning, searching, seeking the Holy Spirit of how to be obedient to that call on his life.
2 Timothy 2: 15 NKJV Be diligent (study) to present yourself approved to God, a worker who does not need to be ashamed, rightly dividing the word of truth.
As I walk out my calling I need to be marking the trail, not the final word but the journey. Despise not the small beginnings but enjoying the journey. When I mark out the milestones in my journey, the ups, the downs, the falls, the successes, then I have a story of experience that I can share with others that will bring them hope in their journey. When we share our story and listen to other’s stories, we are giving them creditability and they will be encouraged to keep going on and especially through the lows of the journeys then they will not give up, but they will know that God is waiting there to help them get up and keep moving on.
I so much want to be an encourager and I know that that is my call from the Lord. I can never forget that the enemy hates it when I am walking out my calling and will constantly throw fiery darts to discourage me from being the encourager that I am called to be.
Two of the scariest scriptures for me in relation to the call in our lives is first the story of the minas in Luke 19: 11-27 where Jesus teaches them that there were two people out of three who were obedient to work with the mina or talents to bring more fruit and they were rewarded. The third person in the parable went and dug his mina or talent and did absolutely nothing with it. Oh, my goodness we are not to be lazy like that. We are to practice, try, fall, get back up but always moving forward with our mina or talent. The reprimand given to that person makes my heart break and makes me quiver in my boots. I do not want to be like that, and I choose not to.
Then the second scariest scripture is in:
2 Samuel 11: 1 NASB Then it happened in the spring, at the time when kings go out to battle, that David sent Joab and his servants with him and all Israel, and they destroyed the sons of Ammon and besieged Rabbah. But David stayed at Jerusalem.
David was the king and he was supposed to be at the battle with his men, but he stayed at Jerusalem and this is when he fell into the horrible sin with Bathsheba and in the process committed adultery and murder and a baby died. This is a warning for all of us to stay in tune to the Holy Spirit with the call that is on our lives and to be fulfilling that call.
Each day may not feel like a victory party but that is not the point. Stay faithful to the call, knowing that you have been called, and you have been called to be holy as God is holy. He has provided for that, so seek His face every day. When we are faithful to the call day in and day out it protects us from falling.
2 Peter 1: 10 NASB Therefore, brothers and sisters, be all the more diligent to make certain about His calling and choice of you; for as long as you practice these things, you will never stumble;
Holy Spirit I pray that as each one of us walks, runs towards you with the calling in our lives, no matter what part of the journey or season that we are in I pray that we are faithful to fulfill that call each day. I pray that we would seek Your face early in the morning, spend time in Your presence, loving You, becoming more like You so that we can be holy in our calling as you have called us to be. Also Lord that we would not shy away from the calling that You have for us and when the fiery darts come from the enemy we would just look to You knowing that if we are being shot at by the enemy we must be doing part of the call. I also pray that you would encourage us in our calls, give further instructions, guidance on any questions that we have and I pray that we would be obedient in our calls and we would know that they are holy calls from You, In Jesus Name. Amen.
