When I think of consistency I see and hear a regular heartbeat on a machine in the hospital. Problems occur when that heartbeat is not consistent, such as a heart attack, or it goes flatline and the person dies. This is an extravagant way to think of consistency, but consistency affects every part of our lives. Consistency affects how I prepare myself for school, study, praying, work, a workout, or play. Consistency will affect our finances, our ability to purchase a home, what kind of home we can purchase and where. When you truly think about it, consistency is powerful, and the lack of consistency is detrimental.
We see this in our daily keep of our physical bodies such as brushing our teeth, washing our hands, washing and brushing our hair, cleaning our homes, preparation of meals, raising our children, tending to our marriages, getting the rest that is needed so that we can have a wonderful life.
The Lord desires that I am consistent in seeking Him, reading the Word of God, drawing closer to Him, listening to Him, obeying Him, honouring Him, learning more about Him, studying, and worshiping Him. He encourages us also to rise early to spend time with Him. All aspects of our lives are affected by our consistency. The scriptures provide the proof.
- Psalm 119: 147 NASB I rise before dawn and cry for help; I wait for Your words.
- 1 Corinthians 15:58 CJB So, my dear brothers, stand firm and immovable, always doing the Lord’s work as vigorously as you can, knowing that united with the Lord your efforts are not in vain.
- James 1:4 ESV And let steadfastness (perseverance, endurance, patience) have its full effect, that you may be perfect (mature) and complete, lacking in nothing.
When the Lord was addressing the Seven Churches in the book of Revelations; the Message to Laodicea magnified the lack of being consistent in our daily lives and our life in Christ. This church was known as the lukewarm church, and it received no approval from the Lord whereas the other six churches had some sort of approval. The description was that they were neither hot nor cold but lukewarm and if they did not change the Lord would spit, vomit, or spew them out of their mouth.
- Revelation 3:15-16 CJB “I know what you are doing: you are neither cold nor hot. How I wish you were either one or the other! 16 So, because you are lukewarm, neither cold nor hot, I will vomit you out of my mouth!
Britannica describes consistent as:
- the quality or fact of staying the same at different times.
When we are consistent then we will be reliable, trustworthy, stable, diligent, not deceived, either on good days or bad days.
When I think of the warning given to the Church in Laodicea, I cannot help but think of lukewarm coffee and how much it detests me. I like my black coffee hot or cold but nothing in between. So, if that is what I experience with coffee then how much more do I need to be consistent in my life with the Lord or I will not be a pleasure to Him and He will not be able to say to me, “Well done good and faithful”. Be encouraged God will use any example to speak to you.
When I started writing my blog in January our younger techie friend who guided me through all the different steps instructed me that the foundation of my blog was to be consistent with the timing of the postings. He told me that I needed to pick one day of the week such as Monday for me and to post a new blog weekly or biweekly but to be consistent. Now I have not reached the point of that regular heartbeat of every Monday but that is my goal.
He has continued to encourage me that my consistency affects the algorithm. This past week I also started my own YouTube channel “Come Up Here and See” and once again I needed my techie friend to help with the set up and posting of the videos and he reminded me that consistency is the most important aspect.
When I was sharing with one of my friends about my excitement about starting my YouTube channel and the fifteen videos that I have already completed but I cannot upload all fifteen videos on the same day because of the consistent timing needed to upload them. For example, if I upload all fifteen then I will need another fifteen in one week and so forth because my goal is to post weekly. I need a regular heartbeat per say on the videos and blogs so that the algorithm is consistent.
The Lord reminded me about how much He desires consistency in my life. I could hear Him say, Lisa, spend your time with me first, tell me all about your dreams, desires, disappointments and then you get to write and talk. Yes Jesus, thank You for always being there to encourage me, correct me, set me straight and thank You for showing me about the church in Laodicea and reminding me about the lukewarm because that gave me a greater desire to be consistent and to be found diligent. When I surrender to You, and I am on the path diligency, I know that my life will flow much better, and my heartbeat will be strong. Jesus You are so good. Thank you.
Holy Spirit, I pray that You will continue to reveal to each one of us the importance of being consistent and diligent in our lives and most importantly with You. Lord, I pray that we would not look for blessings but that we would just desire Your presence and to behold Your beauty just like David prayed. Lord, I thank You for encouraging us every day to spend time with You, to listen to You and to obey You and that You always guide us. You are amazing Lord, in Jesus’ name I pray, Amen.
- Psalm 27:4 NKJV One thing I have desired of the Lord, That will I seek: That I may dwell in the house of the Lord All the days of my life, To behold the beauty of the Lord, And to inquire in His temple.
Ps. The funniest thing about this post was that it is actually Saturday and it is ready to go and I was just about to post it and the Holy Spirit reminded me, Lisa you want and desire to be consistent in your postings to happen on Monday, sweetheart it is not Monday, you have to wait. I thought that was hilarious!
