There is an old saying that repetition is the best teacher. Correct Repetition is the best teacher according to my sister-in-law, Cheryl, who is a skilled teacher, principal, and holds a master’s in music.
When she said that, I realized that was the truth.
Think about it, a young child learned the two times table this way:
- Two-by-two is four, two-by-three is six, two-by-four is eight, two-by-five is nine, two-by-six is twelve, two-by-seven is fourteen, two-by-eight is sixteen, two-by-nine is eighteen, two-by-ten is twenty, two-by-eleven is twenty-two, two-by-twelve is twenty-two and two-by-twelve is twenty-four.
If you were reading closely enough you would see that that two-by-five and two-by-twelve is incorrect. If, as a young child, I kept repeating this incorrect repetition of the two times table over and over, it would mess me up. It would be false, and it would not help me later in life in any part of math. I would not be able to build a house, set a budget, build a rocket ship, run a business, be a teller, whatever I wanted and especially whatever the Lord was calling me to do.
- Oxford defines Correct as free from error, under fact or truth.
- Repetition is the act of something that happened before or doing or saying something again, according to Cambridge.
- Antonyms of repetition are sporadic, irregular, intervals.
I know that seems to be a simple and exaggerated illustration, but I see this as an issue today in our society in every aspect. The lack of morals in our society has come from a repetitious teaching that is not correct. These teachings include evolution, gender-switching, being a god, and not taking responsibility for taking a life.
To have correct repetition you must know the truth. Jesus is Truth. Embracing Jesus as truth in your life will change the way you approach every subject, from math and English to history, science, geography, art, and physical education.
- John 14: 6 NASB Jesus said to him, “I am the way, and the truth, and the life; no one comes to the Father except through Me.
The Bible’s longest chapter is Psalm 119, which talks about loving and studying the Word of God and keeping it in our hearts to avoid sinning against God.
- Psalm 119:11 NKJV Your word I have hidden in my heart, That I might not sin against You.
Cheryl practiced the piano every morning with her brothers who had voice training. My husband tells me that often his sister would say, Mom, the boys are not practicing with me. My husband, because of that repetition and training, can listen to anyone sing and know when they are off-key or not.
We fight against repetition with hard work and determination, even if we find the topic uninteresting. We need to choose the correct repetition of the truth. The promises of being diligent to keep the Word of God in our lives are amazing.
- Joshua 1: 8 AMPC This Book of the Law shall not depart out of your mouth, but you shall meditate on it day and night, that you may observe and do according to all that is written in it. For then you shall make your way prosperous, and then you shall deal wisely and have good success.
My daughter-in-law who is a store manager, believes that correct repetition is the best teacher. Incorrect teaching leads to costs and frustrations for the company, managers, and employees.
Correct Repetition of the truth will affect every area of your life. Jesus promised us a helper who is the Holy Spirit who will guide us into all truth. For Him to guide us into all truth then we must spend time with Him every day, loving Him, obeying Him, and asking Him what truth is. He will guide us, but we must surrender our lives to Him to have that correct repetition of truth in our lives.
- John 16:13 AMP But when He, the Spirit of Truth, comes, He will guide you into all the truth [full and complete truth]. For He will not speak on His own initiative, but He will speak whatever He hears [from the Father—the message regarding the Son], and He will disclose to you what is to come [in the future].
Jesus is Truth and if you do not know truth then the first step is to surrender your will and life to Him. Ask forgiveness for your sins and ask Him to be your Lord and Saviour. Once you have done that then ask the Lord for the Holy Spirit to live in you, guide you, and direct you into all truth.
Holy Spirit, I thank You for teaching us with correct repetition of Your love, acceptance, kindness, mercies, grace, and so much more. I pray that we would rely on Your correct teaching in every area of our lives knowing that You are God and that You know all things. In Jesus name I pray, amen.
