Give Thanks with A Grateful Heart

Thanksgiving Holiday is a time to celebrate the harvest and to enjoy your family and friends from far and near. This celebration usually includes a special meal of roasted turkey, squash, and pumpkin pie, and the house is beautifully decorated with fall colours.

The Word of God teaches us to be thankful. We could look at each scripture and then ask the Holy Spirit how we can grow in thankfulness.

We are to continually offer a sacrifice of thanksgiving no matter how we are feeling. We are to come into His Presence with a thankful heart. Our lips, which means our words are to recognize the importance of the Lord. The Word also tells us that since the Lord is our strength, we will give thanks to Him. We give thanks to the Lord because He is good! When praying we are to ask with a thankful heart, and we must not be anxious or worried. One of the best scriptures is that no matter the circumstances I am to be thankful because I know that the Lord loves me, He cares for me, He is my advocate, and He is righteous.

Here are the scriptures that I have found which will help us:

  • Psalm 50:14 NASB Offer God a sacrifice of thanksgiving and pay your vows to the Most High;
  • Psalm 100:4 NASB Enter His gates with thanksgiving, And His courtyards with praise. Give thanks to Him, bless His name.
  • Hebrews 13:15 NASB Through Him then, let’s continually offer up a sacrifice of praise to God, that is, the fruit of lips praising His name.
  • Psalm 28:7 NASB The Lord is my strength and my shield; My heart trusts in Him, and I am helped; Therefore, my heart triumphs, and with my song, I shall thank Him.
  • Psalm 107:1 NASB Give thanks to the Lord, for He is good, For His mercy is everlasting.
  • Philippians 4:6 NASB Do not be anxious about anything, but in everything by prayer and pleading with thanksgiving let your requests be made known to God.
  • Psalm 7:17 NASB I will give thanks to the Lord according to His righteousness and will sing praise to the name of the Lord Most High.
  • 1 Thessalonians 5:18 ESV Give thanks in all circumstances; for this is the will of God in Christ Jesus for you.

As Christ followers, Christians, believers in Jesus Christ we are to be thankful because God the Father sent His Son because He loves us. Jesus redeemed us from our sins on the cross and He rose from the grave. Jesus is at the right hand of God the Father making intercession for us. Every day we should thank the Lord for the cross, resurrection and know that one day He will return for us and that is all that matters. Until that time when we see Him face to face, we should share our thankfulness with others so that they can know that God loves them and has provided for them.

So, I challenge all of us to grow in our thankfulness. Ask the Holy Spirit to reveal to us where we are not thankful, ask forgiveness, and start giving thanks.

Holy Spirit please reveal to us where we have blinders on our eyes, heart, and our mind that we have been ungrateful and prideful, and we have not been grateful for what the Lord Jesus Christ accomplished for us. Please show us in every area of our lives so that we can be a witness of You and Your Greatness. In Jesus name, I pray amen.
