Kingdom of Priests to God the Father

One year ago, I started my blog “Come Up Here and See” to share my love for Jesus and prayer with others. Seeing how God sees on any topic is important to me. Having this vision and understanding affects the growth that I desire in my life.

Derek Prince’s book “Secrets of a Prayer Warrior” revealed the depths of prayer.

Derek Prince writes that the two highest roles God gave to mankind are kings and priests to God the Father. This was made possible through the forgiveness of our sins and the cleansing blood of Jesus Christ our Lord and Saviour.

  • Revelation 1:5-6 NKJV and from Jesus Christ, the faithful witness, the firstborn from the dead, and the ruler over kings of the earth. To Him who loved us and washed us from our sins in His own blood, and has made us kings and priests to His God and Father, to Him be glory and dominion forever and ever. Amen.

Many will say how do I become a king or a priest? I did not go to seminary; we do not call pastors at our denomination priests. The church I attend is very modern. We do not have stained glass windows, wooden pews, old-fashioned hymns, organs, or choir robes, so how do I become a priest? Others would say we do not have a king because we vote for authorities. We have a president and a vice president, so how does that work.

We only need to look at Jesus’ ongoing life of prayer, that consisted of four actions that Isaiah 53:12 explained:

  • Jesus poured out His life to death, Leviticus 17:11
  • He was counted among the transgressors, Matthew 27:38
  • He bore the sin of many and became the sin offering for all, John 1:29
  • He made intercessions for transgressors, even while hanging on the cross. Luke 23:34

Jesus life of prayer did not stop with His death and resurrection, but His intercession continues forever and forever. He has an unchangeable priesthood, and I am grateful. Are you thankful?

  • Hebrews 7:24-25 TLB  But Jesus lives forever and continues to be a Priest so that no one else is needed. 25 He can save completely all who come to God through him. Since he will live forever, he will always be there to remind God that he has paid for their sins with his blood.

Jesus became the High Priest Forever and King of Righteousness with His ascension. Luke 24:51

  • Hebrews 6:19-7:1 NKJV  This hope we have as an anchor of the soul, both sure and steadfast, and which enters the Presence behind the veil, 20 where the forerunner has entered for us, even Jesus, having become High Priest forever according to the order of Melchizedek. The King of Righteousness 7 For this Melchizedek, king of Salem, priest of the Most High God, who met Abraham returning from the slaughter of the kings and blessed him,

Derek Prince explained to perceive this, we only need to look at the Tabernacle of Moses. This tabernacle had two large curtains or veils. The first veil represents the resurrection of Jesus where we as believers relate to Him. This is where the five body ministries or offices that God provided for the believers to equip them for ministry. These offices are apostles, prophets, evangelists, pastors, and teachers. Not everyone will be appointed by God to one of these offices.

Behind the second veil is the Holy of Holies. The Holy of Holies where believers relate to Jesus in His ascension and where the bible says that we are seated in heavenly places in Christ Jesus. Ephesians 2:6

The writer of Hebrews says the heavenly order is the king and priest. Behind the second veil, Jesus is Priest and King. Since we are seated in heavenly places in Him, we also have this wonderful, amazing opportunity to share in this ministry which is the highest call to all mankind.

Even if we do not live in a country where there is a king and castles, we do know the role of the king is to rule. However, many of us do not understand the role of a priest. That will leave us with questions of how I become a priest to God the Father. God in His infinite wisdom provided an example to follow His Son, Jesus Christ.

The unique ministry of a priest is sacrifice. Priests offer both gifts and sacrifices for sins. Hebrews 5:1 & Hebrews 8:3

In the Old Testament, only priests could offer sacrifices, two kings offered sacrifices, and both were judged severely by the Lord because they were not priests. 1 Samuel 13: 9, 13 & 2 Chronicles 26:16

  • Jesus was not a Levitical priest, therefore not a priest according to the law. He had a different kind of priesthood as described inHebrews 6:19-7:1.
  • He was a priest according to the order of Melchizedek which was the first priesthood mentioned in the bible. Genesis 14:18, Psalm 110:4
  • Since Jesus is our example, we have now become priests where we are living stones, a holy priesthood, to offer up spiritual sacrifices. 1 Peter 2:5 We are also told to offer ourselves as a living sacrifice. Romans 12:1

Jesus in His priestly role offered prayers and supplications on the earth, on the cross He offered himself, and in Heaven, He continues the priestly ministry of intercession.

Derek Prince says that as kings we are meant to rule in God’s Kingdom, and as priests, we are to offer sacrifices. God’s people are not one or the other. I am both a king and a priest unto God the Father. Being in the kingdom or as kings, it is our responsibility to rule the world for God. However, it is only when we learn to minister as priests that we can rule the world for God’s Kingdom. Priests offer sacrifices. The spiritual sacrifices that God expects us to offer are prayers, and petitions just like Jesus did. When we learn to pray, then we are qualified to rule as kings.

So, if you have been wondering about the purpose and plan that God has for your life, this is it, to be a king and priest to God the Father. Are you willing to surrender yourself to be a priest unto God? There is no greater joy than reaching the throne through prayer. You will usually be out of sight but as a prayer warrior behind that second veil in the holy of holies.

Some may say I am not a strong person of prayer, but I want to encourage you that when you offer yourself to God, He will shape you as the potter and the clay. Isaiah 64:8

I want to thank Derek Prince for sharing the truth of our calling in his book “Secrets of a Prayer Warrior”. The truth was simply laid out in the order of what Jesus did while on this earth and how He continues to make intercession for us.

Be encouraged that when you pray, God is waiting for you. He will encourage you with His love, kindness, and goodness. God loves us and can hardly wait for us to pray, He has more for us than we could ever imagine. Have a wonderful time praying.

Spirit of the Living God, I pray that You would reveal a fresh understanding of how we are to be kings and priests to God the Father. Thank you, Jesus, for showing us to be a priest through offering yourself in prayers and offering yourself. In Jesus’ name, amen.
