- Matthew 18:19,20 NASB “Again I say to you, that if two of you agree on earth about anything that they may ask, it shall be done for them by My Father who is in heaven. For where two or three have gathered together in My name, I am there in their midst.”
In his book “Secrets of a Prayer Warrior” Derek Prince wrote that Scripture gives us an important principle for our foundations for effective prayer. The word “agree” is taken from the Greek word “sumphoneo” and we derive our Engish word “symphony”. The English words gathered together literally mean that we have been led together.
Our prayer life is a symphony of prayer where our leader or conductor is the Holy Spirit. The music or score is the will of God as revealed in the Word of God. We as musicians are brought together by the name of Jesus. Derek challenges us to think about prayer as taking our place in the beautiful orchestra and playing our instrument. We will not be confined to one instrument, we will not be bored in this amazing orchestra. These instruments will assist us to “pray in the Spirit on all occasions with all kinds of prayers and requests”. Ephesians 6:18 NIV Derek Prince
- Wikipedia – Worship, is derived from the Old English weorþscipe, meaning “worship, honour shown to an object”, which has been etymologised as “worthiness” or “worth-ship” – in the sense of giving, at its simplest, value to something.
Derek continues to write that Worship is only sometimes understood in contemporary Christendom, especially in the entitled Western society where we live. Worship is not singing hymns, and choruses, or declaring God’s attributes; worship has to do with our attitude. In the Old and New Testaments, worship describes an attitude of the body. One means to bend low. Another is to bend the upper part of the body forward and stretch out the hands. The third means to prostrate oneself face downward in the presence of the One to whom you worship. Thanksgiving and Praise are usually vocal, worship is the attitude of the body’s position. Derek Prince
We see an amazing picture of Worship in the Word of God revealing how it affects the position of our bodies and hearts:
- Isaiah 6:1-4 TLB The year King Uzziah died I saw the Lord! He was sitting on a lofty throne, and the Temple was filled with his glory. 2 Hovering about him were mighty, six-winged angels of fire. With two of their wings, they covered their faces, with two others they covered their feet, and with two they flew. 3 In a great antiphonal chorus they sang, “Holy, holy, holy is the Lord Almighty; the whole earth is filled with his glory.” 4 Such singing it was! It shook the Temple to its foundations, and suddenly the entire sanctuary was filled with smoke.
Isaiah witnessed these great, powerful angels and each one had six wings and they used four wings to cover their faces and feet. These angels were worshiping the Lord and the last two wings they served or flew. The Word of God reveals that worship comes before service.
The angels were not covering the faces and feet with shame but submitting and honouring the Lord. This truth was revealed to the woman at the well by Jesus when He told her that everyone must worship the Father in Spirit and truth. The Lord’s Prayer makes known to us when we pray to the Father, and we acknowledge that His name is holy. Simply put “Worship is a heart bowed low in God’s presence.” Derek Prince
- John 4:23-24 NASB But a time is coming, and even now has arrived, when the true worshipers will worship the Father in spirit and truth; for such people the Father seeks to be His worshipers. 24 God is spirit, and those who worship Him must worship in spirit and truth.”
- Matthew 6:9 NASB “Pray, then, in this way: ‘Our Father, who is in heaven, Hallowed be Your name.
- Matthew 4:10 NASB Then Jesus said to him, “Go away, Satan! For it is written: ‘You shall worship the Lord your God, and serve Him only.’”
When we worship we are in a safety zone because no pride is present. We see this in how Jesus responded to Satan’s temptation to worship the fallen angel. The statement ‘You shall worship the Lord Your God, and serve Him only’ reveals many facets of the Kingdom of God. As we worship Jesus we know that in Him we find righteousness, peace, joy, humility, and everything opposite to the deeds of the flesh.
The last scripture about worship that we look at today comes from John’s breathtaking vision of the throne room. Revelation 4 encourages us about the four living creatures giving glory and honour to the Lord, with the twenty-four elders. The elders cry out to the Lord that He is worthy to be worshiped and receive glory because He created all things, and because of God’s will they exist and were created. Oh my goodness, when I read today I felt the love of God for us. We were made in His image, by His will we were created and He has a purpose and a plan for us. The Lord Almighty is in love for you and me and we exist because of His will. As we meditate on this and worship the Lord, this is where worship of the Father affects our prayers. Once we worship Him, our prayers will be according to His will and have a purpose to please Him.
- Revelation 4:10-12 NASB And when the living creatures give glory, honour, and thanks to Him who sits on the throne, to Him who lives forever and ever, 10 the twenty-four elders will fall down before Him who sits on the throne, and they will worship Him who lives forever and ever, and will cast their crowns before the throne, saying, 11 “Worthy are You, our Lord and our God, to receive glory and honour and power; for You created all things, and because of Your will they existed, and were created.”
Before we pray it would behoove us not to worship God Almighty first. When you worship Him, all pride has to leave, and humility comes, what a comforting place to be. As you worship remember that He loves you more than you love yourself. You are made in His image. He has open arms for you and is waiting for you.
Spirit of the Living God, we worship You, we come into Your presence with our hearts bowed low in Your presence because we want to give You glory, honour and praise. We love You and thank You for all You have done for us, in Jesus’ name, amen.
